David Nelson is the CEO and Co-Founder of BrewFund, Inc. headquartered in Johnson City, TN. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Graphics in 2009 from Purdue University where he says “I spent way more time in college than most people! I used my college jobs and eventually my stipend to help fund my life while I started my first company.”
David got started with mobile app development before the iPhone even existed. This led to him starting a consulting business focused on mobile apps and websites. Over the years, he had friends getting married all over the country and couldn’t always be part of the celebrations. He would call a bar and/or a brewery to see if he could pre-purchase drinks for the bachelor parties. He says, “The brewery thought it would be too difficult to guarantee they would get their drinks and the bar simply took my money and never gave my friend anything.” From that point, he realized there had to be a better way. He and his business partner, Travis Rother, and had the skills to create this better way, and that’s exactly what they did! Together, they built, designed and released The BrewFund in the Northeast Tennessee region. They focused on this region first because of the exciting resources available. Now they are growing outside of the region into multiple states across the country.
We asked David why he chose to work at Spark Plaza with this awesome new app that he had developed. His response, “Working at home is distracting and you miss out on a community of entrepreneurs. By working around other like minded people I not only get more work done; I get access to new clients, resources, and at any moment I can run ideas past other entrepreneurs. To me, working in a co-working location like Spark Plaza means an even greater chance of success for my business.”
